National Council Member as well as Sagarmatha zonal committee member of CPN-UML, Chabilal Karki murdered at Thulachhap VDC-4, Nisankhe, Okhaldhunga by unidentified masked personage while he was having diner in local Tara Hotel, on July 8. Karki was severely beaten up by iron rod on his head in demonist way that his leg was also broken up in several pieces and stabbed as well and died in community hospital after few hours in Okhaldhunga.
He was the former district secretary of Okhaldhunga and candidate of general election in 2001 on behalf of CPN-UML was threatened of death issued, according to his wife, by Maoist several times because of his active participation in politics.
His body was kept at Tundikhel for flower-patterned tributes to him, Chabilal, where the party leaders and thousands of cadres were participated in funeral procession as well. Prime-minister Madhab Kumar Nepal, President Jhalanath Khanal, and other influential leaders of UML paid the last tribute to the leader Chabilal. President Jhalanath Khanal urged, that was the preplanned incident which causes death of Karki and culprits should punished. Prime minister said Maoists are behind the murder remembering the sound of Chabilal’s wife.
Even Maoist reject the accusation, the cadres and participants of funeral procession shouted anti Maoist slogan and advocated the peace, it seems the process of forming government through national consensus is impossible because Maoist are in favor of weapon, intimidation, threaten and also murder as well that may cause the peace process in long term.
